Prevention of Athlete's Foot
It is not easy to prevent athlete's foot because it is usually contracted in dressing rooms, showers, and swimming pool locker rooms where bare feet come in contact with the fungus. However, you can do much to prevent infection by practicing good foot hygiene. Daily washing of the feet with soap and water; drying carefully, especially between the toes; and changing shoes and hose regularly to decrease moisture, help prevent the fungus from infecting the feet. Also helpful is daily use of a quality foot powder.

athlete's foot
Growth of the athlete's foot fungus is promoted by a dark, warm, moist environment such as that found inside shoes. The fungi persist for a long time in the environment, facilitating transmission of the disease in communal areas such as locker rooms and showers.
This is why some of my friends who are also into sports, like me, suffer from athlete's foot, because of the gym! Wait till I tell them how dangerouse the locker room is!

Achilles Tendonitis
Here are some warning signs that the condition is developing:
Pain in the achilles tendon during or after exercise
Swelling or the area surrounding the tendon
Redness and irritation on the skin around the achilles tendon
Pain in the tendon when walking (especially up hills)
Stiffness and inability to stretch the achilles tendon without pain
Stiffness of the tendon in the morning
You may feel a "cracking" sensation when the tendon is under pressure
You may feel one or all of these symptoms.

common tendons that become inflamed
The most common tendon areas that become inflamed are the elbow, wrist, forearm, biceps, shoulder, leg, knee, ankle, hip, and Achilles.
Tendonitis varies according to the person, but it usually affects the tendons mostly used. For example, swimmers many times get their shoulders inflamed and hikers develop tendonitis in their fingers. So it really all depends on what areas you use the most.

down side
The down side of being an athlete: tendonitis and athlete's foot. Two conditions I am very familiar with.
Tendonitis is the inflammation of a tendon. When a tendon tears it takes a long time to heal and rarely regains it's original strength. A common symptom of tendonitis is a burning feeling around the inflamed tendon.
